a shady haven at Predano's Beach..
During the last week we had become increasingly uncomfortable during the afternoon heat, so we decided that it was now time to leave Greece behind. We drove to Igoumenitsa and bought a “Camping on Board” ticket for a midnight ferry crossing to Bari, Italy. We then spent our last hours in Greece about 4kms down the road from the port, at Predano’s Beach, where we parked amongst the very tall trees in a eucalyptus grove, well sheltered from the afternoon sun.

The fine sandy beach was the best we’d been on and the sea so warm that even John took a dip! If we had found this spot before buying our ticket for that night’s crossing we would have stayed a few more days.

However, at 10pm we checked in at the port and duly waited until nearly 1 a.m. for the ship to arrive; as you might expect we didn’t let that worry us too much, the wine came out and we spent the time talking with the other English couple waiting in line, so hello to Fred and Beryl from Kent! We finally boarded and spent the night, as the ticket suggests, camping in our ‘van on a semi open deck, with the gas turned off but plugged into their 240v electricity supply, which was a first for us, but is a very popular way to travel between many of the Italian and Greek ports.
