Our next stop was Athens, because you can’t tour Greece and not see the Acropolis, can you? We couldn’t find the campsite shown on our map at Kifisia on the outskirts of Athens, which we believed to be the site that a couple of people had told us about at Hellas, since they’d both said that it was on the road in coming from the direction we were travelling in. We stopped to ask at a restaurant in the area where the owner’s daughter very kindly rang tourist information and found that Athen’s Camping, the one we’d been told about, was actually on our way out of the city. She rang the site and the English speaking owner gave me the GPS co-ordinates, saying that she wouldn’t give me the address as the Sat-Navs couldn’t find it by the address. After a delicious lunch at the restaurant off we went. Half an hour later I rang the site to confirm that we were using the correct co-ordinates, which we were, but our lady in the SatNav wanted to take us about 20kms out of the city!
After another hour driving around, some of it in the narrow streets of Piraeus, we abandoned all thoughts of staying in Athens and headed out to Ancient Korinthos. So, yes you can tour Greece and not see the Acropolis!
